About The Weaver

  • Born in a traditional handloom weaver family in the manibandh Nuaptna Handloom Cluster of Athgarh subdivision, Cuttack District.  Has experience of tie & dye and weaving for six decades. Fabrics woven by him are offered to Lord Jaganath in Puri  in festive occasion. Weaves a wide range of elegant handloom like saree, dress materials,  dhoti, scarf, etc. in cotton , silk as well as bapta ( cotton and silk mixed)yarn.
  • His outstanding contribution to handloom was recognised with conferrment of  National Award for handloom weaving  in 1993 and the next higher award Sant Kabir Award in 2015.

  • Single ikat (tie and dye or bandh) popularly known as Khandua design woven by weavers of of coastal Odisha
